JCI Lipa constructed a new daycare for their adopted community in Sitio Hillview, Barangay Antipolo del Sur, Lipa City. This project is a Legacy project of LOM Pres. Aysa Garcia which was chaired by JCI Mem. Riva Lasala and co-chaired by BJCI Mem. Mel Tadeo. THe Daycare Center was blessed by Father Ted and officially turned over to the adopted community last June 7, along with the primary benefactor, Counselor Patmon.
Sitio Hillview’s original bamboo daycare was destroyed by typhoon Glenda last July 17, 2014. And after a year of coordination with the local government and private benefactors, JCI Lipa was able to pool funds and materials to start the construction for a new daycare to serve the needs of the children in the community.
During the JCI Week Celebration, JCI Lipa held a simple groundbreaking ceremony at the new site where the new daycare will be erected. Through community interaction and coordination with Teacher Fe (head teacher of the daycare), the construction employed some of the Sitio’s skilled workers, serving as additional livelihood to the community.
The community daycare also became a bridge to build stronger ties with other JCIP chapters. In May 22, JCI Calamba Dimasalang joined JCI Lipa in painting the almost completed daycare. Also JCI Los Banos and Intellicare donated some school materials for the children to use during the first school year of operations.
In line with the chapter’s dedication to support and promote education among the youth, JCI Lipa also initiated the Bags to School project during the turnover ceremonies. Future daycare students were given backpacks filled with school materials, snacks, and other goodies to start the school wit high spirits. This project was chaired by JCI member and Lipa City Councilor Kay Briones with co-chair JCI Mem. Joan Amargo.
